The hand weaving tradition in Bengal boasts a heritage spanning over a thousand years, deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of the region. The partition era witnessed a significant migration of many weavers to West Bengal, adding to the richness of its textile heritage.

Key weaving centers in Bengal include Kalna (known for Tangail), Fulia and Shantipur (specializing in Tant), Bishnupur (renowned for Baluchari), and Murshidabad (also recognized for Baluchari). Each of these centers contributes to the diverse and intricate tapestry of Bengal’s weaving traditions.

THE SAREES OF BENGAL

TANT: Comes from the Hindi/Bangla word Tant which means loom. BALUCHARI : popular handloom that has been prominent since the Mughal era. The name comes from the traditional weaving center in Baluchar, Murshidabad.
KANTHA: An embroidery style that uses ancient motifs of flowers, leaves, and birds.
JAMDANI :A heritage handloom product that comes from the Persian word jam which means cup and dani which means container.

Day 01 - Kolkata

Arrive Kolkata. Transfer assistance to hotel . Checkin.

Overnight Stay

Day 02 – Krishnagar

After breakfast checkout and drive to Krishnagar  via Phulia Shantipur & Kalna for an interactive meet with the weavers
Lunch.

Overnight stay.

Day 3Murshidabad

Reach Murshidabad in the morning and check in to your hotel. After lunch, set out for a half day sight seeing tour including Cossimbazar Rajbari and Dutch Cemetery

Day 4 – Murshidabad

Early morning Heritage walk ( Jain Temple , Old terracotta temple and Old Palace )
Return to hotel to freshen up and have breakfast.

Depart to visit Hazarduari Palace, Immambara , Katra Mosque , Wasif manzil & Weavers Village ( Tanti Para )

Return for lunch

free afternoon
Late evening cultural program followed by dinner in the hotel.

Overnight Stay

Day 5 –  Shantiniketan

After breakfast checkout and depart for Shantiniketan a drive of 03 hrs 30 mins.

Arrive Shantiniketan & Check-into hotel.

Lunch.

Evening visit to Khoai Hat. The weekly market officially known as "Khoai Boner Annya Haat" is a platform
for local artisans and small goods traders to showcase their works. Optionally, a visit to Amar Kutir. Amar Kutir is committed to encouraging craftsperson's in the local area upgrade their skill by organizing training program.It is an institution of education and research in visual arts, founded in 1919, by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.

Dinner
Overnight stay.

Day 6 – Shantiniketan

After Breakfast depart for temple tour featuring terracotta art.

Lunch
Visit to the village of Sian to witness a natural dye studio in action.

Alternative possibilities include visiting a ceramic studio or other textile workshops.

Day 7– Bishnupur

After Breakfast checkout and depart for Bishnupur a drive of 3 hrs 30 mins.
Arrive and check-in at Hotel Annapurna.
Lunch.
Visit the weaver colony.
Evening visit to Lord Krishna temple & Arati.
Dinner.

Overnight stay.

Day 8– Kolkata

After Breakfast checkout and depart for Kolkata a journey of 4hrs 30 mins on the way visit the terracotta temples and the place of making Dashabataar tash'.

Arrive at Kolkata & check in to hotel.

Day 9– Kolkata

After breakfast
Go on a Heritage walk ( duration: 2 hrs. 30 mts) visiting St John's church, Raj Bhawan, G P O , Writers building

Wilsons hotel ( David Wilson (1808–1880) worked as a confectioner in Calcutta and on 18 November 1840 he opened the Auckland Hotel in Calcutta.
The hotel was also known as Wilson's Hotel and changed its name to the Great Eastern Hotel.)
& Currency House. ( this walk is optional )

Lunch
After lunch visit Jorasanko Thakur Bari. ( House of Rabindranath Tagore) .
Free time for shopping or just leisure.
Dinner

Overnight stay.

Day 10 – Kolkata

After breakfast checkout

End of tour.
