The hand weaving tradition in Bengal boasts a heritage spanning over a thousand years, deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of the region. The partition era witnessed a significant migration of many weavers to West Bengal, adding to the richness of its textile heritage.
Key weaving centers in Bengal include Kalna (known for Tangail), Fulia and Shantipur (specializing in Tant), Bishnupur (renowned for Baluchari), and Murshidabad (also recognized for Baluchari). Each of these centers contributes to the diverse and intricate tapestry of Bengal’s weaving traditions.
